A detailed look at our latest M4 Competition track day build, featuring custom suspension setup and power upgrades.

Welcome to our showcase of one of our latest projects - a BMW M4 Competition built for track day excellence while maintaining street usability.

Project Overview

The BMW M4 Competition is already an impressive machine from the factory, but our client wanted to take it to the next level for track day performance while keeping it road-legal and comfortable enough for regular use.

Modifications Include:

Suspension

The suspension system received a comprehensive overhaul to improve handling characteristics while maintaining a usable ride quality:

  • Custom-valved coilovers with adjustable compression and rebound
  • Front and rear adjustable sway bars for fine-tuning corner balance
  • Solid subframe bushings to eliminate flex
  • Adjustable camber plates for precise alignment setup
  • Reinforced control arms

Power

The S58 engine received careful attention to enhance power delivery while maintaining reliability:

  • Custom ECU calibration with optimized boost control
  • High-flow intake system with enlarged air box
  • Full titanium exhaust system with sports catalytic converters
  • Enhanced cooling package with larger intercooler
  • Upgraded charge pipes

Brakes

Braking performance was a key focus for consistent track performance:

  • 6-piston front calipers for improved braking force
  • 380mm front rotors for enhanced heat capacity
  • Race-spec brake pads with progressive bite
  • Stainless steel brake lines for consistent pedal feel
  • High-temperature brake fluid

Testing and Development

The build underwent extensive testing and development:

  1. Initial baseline testing on our Dyno Spectrum DS1
  2. Multiple calibration iterations with data logging
  3. Track testing at Silverstone Circuit
  4. Final calibration adjustments based on track data
  5. Long-term reliability validation

Results

The modifications resulted in significant performance improvements:

  • Improved lap times by 4.2 seconds at Silverstone
  • Better brake feel and consistency with no fade
  • Enhanced cornering stability with reduced understeer
  • Additional 80bhp over stock with improved torque curve
  • Consistent performance over extended track sessions

Conclusion

This M4 Competition build represents the perfect balance between track capability and street usability. The carefully selected modifications work together to enhance the car’s natural strengths while addressing its few weaknesses.

Stay tuned for more detailed posts about specific aspects of this build and our other projects!
